ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2017, THERE WILL BE NO SUNDAY SCHOOL OR 11 A.M. WORSHIP SERVICE HELD AT ST. JOHN'S BECAUSE THERE WILL BE A JOINT WORSHIP SERVICE AND PICNIC HELD AT GRAVEL SPRINGS (SEE BELOW) Sunday, September 3, 2017 - 10:30 a.m. - Joint worship & picnic at Gravel Springs (outside pavilion). PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Sunday School held at St. John's. All are welcome to attend the joint worship service and picnic. St. John’s will provide paper products and drinks, and all are asked to bring a covered dish to share. Gravel Springs is located at 1870 South Pifer Road, Star Tannery, Virginia. In the event of inclement weather, service and picnic will be held inside. Saturday, September 9, 2017 – 1 p.m. - Bishop installation at Waynesboro Sunday, September 10, 2017 – 12 p.m. - SJ Council meeting immediately following worship service. THERE WILL BE NO MOCHA AND A MESSAGE OR BINGO IN SEPTEMBER AS THE FALL FESTIVAL IS SCHEDULED IN ITS PLACE (SEE BELOW FOR INFO). Saturday, September 16, 2017 – 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. - Fall Festival at St. John’s – There will be music for all to enjoy. Activities include face painting and crafts for children. There will be a craft table with items for sale. In addition, baked goods and popcorn will be available for sale. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks and chips! Music will include performances by the following: Robert Nuckols, David Elliott, Rich Giersch and Fred Pollard Please plan to attend as there will be something for everyone to enjoy. The festival benefits our Scholarship Fund and free will donations are greatly appreciated! Fall Festival Update: The Fall Festival was very well attended – there were about 89 people in attendance (maybe more). Casey Wine provided hay rides which were a big hit. There was a great craft and play area set up for the children. The food was a big hit...there were hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, drinks and desserts as well as popcorn from our great popcorn machine. Everyone enjoyed the day especially with the wonderful music provided by Rich Giersch, Gabe and Pastor Sonya, David Elliott, and Fred Pollock. Thank you to everyone who attended the festival as well as provided their services to make this a successful event. Approximately $1900.00 was raised for the scholarship fund. Photos are posted in the Event Photos Section. Sunday, September 17, 2017 – 11 a.m. - "The Blessing of the Animals" service will be held outside! Please bring an item for the animal shelter (we’ll be collecting the entire month of October as well). All are welcome and please bring your pets for Pastor Sonya to bless! Photos have been posted in the Event Photos Section. September 25-28, 2017 - Pastor Sonya will be on vacation from September 25th through September 28th. If you have an emergency during this time, please contact Steve Allamong. SJ September OutreachOur Outreach for September will benefit Bright Futures Frederick-Winchester. We are collecting single serve food items (select the Food List button below for a list of items needed) or cash. This organization provides weekend backpacks of food for over 700 students from nine (9) Frederick County and four (4) Winchester City schools who are experiencing food insecurity at home. They would like the program to grow and foresee between 2,000 to 2,500 students who are in need. Please see Sarah Murphy with any questions you may have. September Outreach Update:
We were able to collect and donate $40 and 59 items to benefit our September Outreach Project for Frederick/Winchester Bright Futures. Sarah Murphy has delivered the money and items. Great job, thanks to all who made this possible! Starting in the Fall of 2018, we will have one joint Confirmation class for all middle school (MS) and high school (HS) youth at Gravel Springs and St. John’s. If you have a rising MS-er or HS-er in the Fall of 2018, please plan for them to attend Confirmation studies with Pastor Sonya. A schedule will be distributed in the summer of 2018.
