SJ December Outreach Project

Our outreach project for the month of December will be to help a family in need from Indian Hollow Elementary School celebrate Christmas. Kim will shop for us and is now collecting monetary donations. If you would rather donate items see or email (by clicking on their name) Kim or Doug for a list for the children (a girl and two boys). You may also click on December list if you would like to download a copy of the list.

Sunday, December 10, 2017 will be the last Sunday to donate gifts/funds for the December Outreach project. Presents will be wrapped on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in the social hall at 10 a.m.

Once again, thanks to the generosity of our church family, we are able to help the family in need from Indian Hollow Elementary School celebrate their Christmas. Thanks to all of you who showed up to help wrap presents. Kim will be delivering them today. Thank you so much for thinking of others especially during this time of year!

Sunday, December 3, 2017 - 12 p.m. - Confirmation Class after worship.

Saturday, December 9, 2017 – 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Preparation/set up for the Hanging of the Greens Service to be held tomorrow. All help is greatly appreciated.

Saturday, December 9, 2017 - 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. - Come join in the celebration of Bill Triplett's 90th birthday. The celebration will be held in the social hall. He would love your company!

Sunday, December 10, 2017 – 11 a.m. – Second Sunday of Advent/Hanging of the Greens. Worship Service with Holy Communion

Sunday, December 10, 2017 - 12:15 p.m. - St. John's Council meeting immediately following worship.

Saturday, December 16, 2017 – 6 p.m. – Mocha and a Message – Christmas Carol Sing. Immediately following our service, we’re going to hold “The ugliest Christmas sweater contest”.  All are invited and encouraged to wear their ugliest Christmas sweater to Mocha and a Message. The winner will receive a prize! Bingo and refreshments to follow in the social hall. All are welcome, please join us!

Sunday, December 17, 2017 – 11 a.m. – Third Sunday of Advent, Worship Service with Holy Communion

Sunday, December 17, 2017 – 12 p.m. – Dress rehearsal for the Children’s Christmas Program. Pizza and drinks will be served immediately following worship. Dress rehearsal to follow lunch.

Sunday, December 24, 2017 – 11 a.m. – Fourth Sunday of Advent, Worship Service with Holy Communion

Sunday, December 24, 2017 – 6 p.m. – Joint worship, Children’s Program and Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with Holy Communion

EFFECTIVE SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2017 - DUE THE FURNACE GOING OUT AND THE LACK OF HEAT THERE WILL BE NO SUNDAY SCHOOL OR WORSHIP SERVICE HELD AT ST. JOHN'S ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 31, 2017.

320 food items were collected for CCAP during the month of December. Thank you for generous donations.

Forwarding Faith at St. John's

During the month of December, the youth of our congregation will be collecting change for the Forwarding Faith campaign. The goal of Forwarding Faith is to endow the youth and faith formation activities, events and programs of the Virginia Synod, ELCA, including, but not limited to, synodical youth events like Lost & Found, Winter Celebration; ACTS; Power in the Spirit and Roots & Wings. The acolyte will collect change during the offering. Thank you for the support of this ministry!

Update:

We collected $179.78 in loose change for the Forwarding the Faith campaign. Thank you once again for your generosity!
